COLLINGWOOD – The future of the proposed Central Park Recreation Centre is still up in the air.

Collingwood Council has agreed in principle to move forward with the Central Park Recreation Centre but will also be looking at alternatives that would fulfill the current needs of the community,

Collinwood Deputy Mayor Rick Lloyd asked staff to bring forward a report in August that would look at covering the Centennial Pool at Heritage Park and building a second ice rink at Central Park.

The future of the Central Park plan could be decided at Collingwood council on Monday night.

The Central Park Steering Committee will make a presentation to council along with the chair of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee. Council is expected to provide some direction to move forward or not.

COLLINGWOOD — A company that specializes in green energy projects has pitched its services to help the town build a multi-use facility.

But whether the offer from Ameresco — an American firm with a Canadian subsidiary — will be heard in time before council makes its decision on the future of Central Park remains to be seen.

Councillors were scheduled to deliberate on recommendations for the project — a proposed $35-million endeavour that would include a double ice rink tied into the existing curling club and YMCA, which itself would see a new six-lane, 25-metre pool — on Monday night. The proposal would also see the three ball diamonds at Central Park moved to an undertermined location. The results of those deliberations were not known prior to the Enterprise-Bulletin’s presstime.

COLLINGWOOD — The future of Central Park could be the biggest decision made by this term of council.

But whether it’s the $35-million project proposed by the committee tasked to come up with a plan, or a phased-in approach advocated by some councillors, remains to be seen.

Since March, councillors have been grappling with the plan that would see a twin ice pad and community space tied into a larger building that would include the Collingwood YMCA and the curling club. The existing ball diamonds on the site would be moved to another location.
